Where is St. John's located? Saint John's is very easy to find. We are convientely located off I-95 and I-695 in Catonsville, Maryland at the intersection of MD-372 and Wilkens Avenue. See our Directions Page for more information.

Where do I go when I get there?
St. John's UCC is not so big that you will walk around without meeting someone. People meet and greet one another in the hallways, and Narthex. If you head to the Narthex, just outside the sanctuary you can ask an usher or greeter for information about our Church, they will even help assist you in finding a seat if you like.

When are your services?

Service times are published at the top right of each page on this web site.  The service times and other events are also published in the church calendar.

What are the services like?

There are typically two services, a traditional/blended service and a contemporary style service.  Music is provided by band and chorus.  Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the contemporary worship where nursery will be provided for infants and toddlers.

Will I be singled out as a guest?
You are not asked to stand or speak during the services, but it would be appreciated if you were to provide us your name and address on the registration pads in the pews. We follow up with all our visitors if you let us know how to reach you.
Will I be expected to give money?
The ministries of St. John's UCC are supported not only by the voluntary financial contributions of its members but also by giving their time, talents and services. There are many ways you can serve and support the church, but as a first time visitor it is not an expectation.

May I participate in communion?
Holy Communion is celebrated once a month at each morning services. St. John's practices open communion; all present may receive the sacrament if they so desire.

Do you have a nursery?
A professional nursery staff cares for infants through 5-year-olds Sundays during the church services. The nursery is on the ground floor at the opposite end from the sanctuary. An usher or greeter will be glad to direct you to the nursery. The nursery also provides a monitor system that will vibrate if your child needs attention.
What about Sunday School or other activities for small children?
St. John's has a wide range programs and activities for children from Sunday School classes to weekday programs to summer activities with Vacation Bible School. Conscientious church members lead the programs, focusing on the spiritual growth of the children.
Do you have activities for teenagers?
St. John's UCC has an active youth fellowship program. Youth are lead in fellowship, volunteer work, and bible study.

How accessible is the building for physically challenged people?
The main entrance to the Sanctuary is handicap accessible. There is a separate handicap accessible entrance to the fellowship hall. Handicap parking is also available directly in front of these entrances. Space in the Sanctuary is available for those who use a wheelchair.

What does your church believe?
We affirm that the authority of God, as revealed in Jesus Christ and interpreted with the aid of the Holy Spirit, stands above and judges all human culture, institutions and laws. But we recognize our calling both as individuals and as the church to live in the world:

  • To proclaim in word and action the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • To work for reconciliation and the unity of the broken Body of Christ.
  • To seek justice and liberation for all.

This is the challenge of the United Church of Christ. Click here for more information regarding the beliefs of the the United Church of Christ.

How do I join the church?
If you wish to become a church member, please talk with Pastor Jennifer after a church service or check "Wish to Join" on the registration pad and you will be contacted.

St. John's has monthly membership classes to help inform new members. These classes cover the history and beliefs of St. John's and the United Church of Christ. The class is an enjoyable experience where dinner is provided and you become friends with other new members.
